Karak Rahma is a tiny roadside café that winter road-trippers use as the starting point for a day out around Al Dhaid, more than 40 km inland from [Sharjah](https://9715.ae/sharjah/) city: you don't stumble upon it, you plan the drive. It sits on Tawi Al Saman Street in Al Bataeh, far from the usual buzz, and it does the basics really well.

There are no tables or benches: you pull up and order from the car. It's our regular detour when we're craving a solid cup of karak, which comes sweet and thick, with luqaimat or ragaag bread. The luqaimat arrive crisp, with a drizzle of date syrup or filled with cheese, and the menu runs to other traditional Emirati snacks. Everything tastes fresh, and the presentation is surprisingly neat for a roadside spot.

Despite the location, there's usually a long line of cars outside, so expect a wait. Winter day-trippers make it their first stop, then carry on to the Friday Market for grilled corn. Check @karak_rahma on Instagram before you set off, since the café has teased a move to a new spot. The catch is the distance: it's a long round trip for a cup of tea and a snack.
