The Lime Tree Café has become synonymous with carrot cake in the UAE, and for many [Dubai](https://9715.ae/dubai/) residents it is the one every other carrot cake gets measured against.

That cake is the reason to come: a moist sponge under a thick, rich layer of creamy icing. Ask for the jewelled carrot cake, the version to single out, and note there is a vegan carrot cake too. It is not cheap, with a slice running past AED 35, and whole cakes come big enough to share between 15 or more. We looked around and at least half the tables had a slice of the infamous carrot cake. We recommend that you call ahead to check if the carrot cake is available though, as sometimes they do run out. Around it sit freshly made quiches, salads and other healthy dishes, with several gluten-free savoury and sweet choices.

It is counter service: you order and pay at the till, take a number to your table and the food is brought over. The kitchen can be slow when it is short-staffed; a bagel has taken more than 30 minutes, and cakes sometimes land well before the drinks.

The [Al Quoz](https://9715.ae/dubai/area/al-quoz/) branch, next to The Courtyard, is spacious and open, and has a small shop selling accessories, clothes and kitchenware. That makes it a good setting for meetings, a breakfast with friends or a relaxed evening coffee.
