At Seven Stars, a halal Chinese hotpot spot, almost everything you drop into the pot costs AED 5 a plate, which is why it has been our go-to for years. It sits on Al Ramth Street in [Al Barsha](https://9715.ae/dubai/area/barsha/) 1, near the Millennium Al Barsha hotel behind Mall of the Emirates.

There's no buffet bar here: you order from a menu, in Chinese, English and Arabic, starting with a broth at AED 15 and then adding plates from more than 60 ingredients, from fresh crab and clams to lotus root, enoki and hand-made noodles. We go for the spicy broth, a light chilli oil base, and our usual combination is seafood, mushrooms and vegetables, all cooked at the table in the bubbling broth. The dual-flavour pot splits spicy and clear broth, which suits a table where not everyone eats chilli.

The catch is the meat: beef or lamb is AED 20 per 100g and the fresh cuts AED 38 per 150g, so a meat-heavy pot costs far more than our usual AED 60 a person. Going as four? Get the AED 168 set meal for four instead of building it plate by plate. Order the orange drink and finish with the ice cream, AED 5, in a wide choice of flavours. The wait is usually under 10 minutes.

For a halal hotpot near Mall of the Emirates, especially with friends who like to build their own pot, this is the place.
