Orto sits at the end of a quiet street at Al Athar Street in [Jumeirah](https://9715.ae/dubai/area/jumeirah/) 2, right on the [Dubai](https://9715.ae/dubai/) Water Canal. It made its name on specialty coffee roasted from Brazilian and Colombian beans, with crème brûlée lattes and espresso tonics on the list, and only later added breakfast, which is why we came. The walk from the parking beneath the bridge sets the tone: runners and cyclists pass by, and families gather along the canal.

Inside, the room is clean and considered, from floors to walls. We waited about 10 minutes for a table on a weekend morning. The paid parking opposite does fill up which can be a bummer, so best to come early. Since it was warm, we sat inside, though there is outdoor seating on the canal.

We ordered the French Toast, the Royal Breakfast and the Mango Coconut Cake, all well presented and generously portioned. The Royal Breakfast was the winner: scrambled eggs, beans, halloumi, avocado and a beetroot paste, each part cooked with care. Regulars also rate the eggs Benedict and the croissant pudding, both on our list for next time. The cappuccinos and lattes we ordered alongside held up too. We paid about AED 80–90 per person.

For a slow weekend breakfast by the water in Jumeirah, Orto is worth the early start.
