Mehfil Biriyani cooks the biryani served at Kerala weddings, and it's refreshingly simple, with none of the extras like fried onions or raisins.

It's tucked inside Sheikh Hamdan Colony on Street 214 B in [Karama](https://9715.ae/dubai/area/karama/), with RTA parking right out front. This is a sit-down place with table service: staff bring the biryani spread on a banana leaf, the way it's eaten at a Malabar wedding.

The rice is short-grain, dum-cooked with the meat until it's fragrant. Order the Mutton Biryani, or the Leghorn Chicken Biryani if you'd rather have chicken. Beef biryani is the house speciality and costs AED 21.50, and two people eat well for around AED 75. Pickle and salad come on the side.

The room is small and gets congested, and the tables fill up even on weekday evenings with queues out the door. At weekend lunch and dinner there's a queue of 15 minutes or more, so come early or late. Extra rice costs AED 5 to 10, which is unusual for a biryani house, and they don't honour Zomato discounts, so don't count on an app offer.

If you grew up on Malabar wedding biryani, or want a no-frills plate that isn't drowned in garnish, this is the one to cross town for. Just leave time for a nap afterwards.
