Most Iranian grills in [Dubai](https://9715.ae/dubai/) sit on a busy road with a car park out front; Kabab Al Bastakiah sits inside Safa Park, the Dubai outpost of a kebab house whose other branches run from Fujairah's Box Yard and Dibba's Al Aqah to [Sharjah](https://9715.ae/sharjah/) and Ajman. It does kebabs, saffron rice and freshly baked bread, and little else.

The room is compact, with seating outside as well, and the staff are warm and welcoming. Getting there means a walk through the park, which is half the appeal.

We'd order the Family Mix Grill for Two, 10 skewers for AED 110: minced lamb kabab, lamb tikka marinated in yoghurt and black pepper, chicken yoghurt tikka and shish tawook in the house red sauce, with saffron buttered rice, bread, hummus, fries and two bowls of ash, the house soup of reshteh noodles, chickpeas, kidney beans, lentils and herbs. Add a Shirazi salad of cucumber, onion and tomato in lime juice to cut through the meat.

The catch is the access. You can't drive to the door, and the park charges AED 3 a head at the gate. Park at the Al Wasl Road entrance and pay with cash or a Nol card.

Worth the walk for a pair or a family after a proper kebab spread at neighbourhood prices, with the park to run around in afterwards.
