Jabal Al Seraj is an old-school Afghan bakery where nothing sits on a shelf: every bread goes into the tandoor after you order it. It sits on the ground floor of Nema Residence on [Al Barsha](https://9715.ae/dubai/area/barsha/) 1 Street, a short walk from Al Barsha Madina Supermarket.

Spend a few minutes outside and you'll see a steady stream of customers, from residents pulling up in their cars to delivery riders stopping for a quick bite. The menu is a handful of plain and stuffed breads, each one shaped and baked after you order, and it's ready within a couple of minutes.

The one to get is the Cheese and Chips Bread: the dough is filled with cheese and crushed Chips Oman, so you get salty, stretchy cheese and the chilli crunch of the crisps inside soft bread, handed over piping hot. The Meat Bread and the plain Chapati are our other picks. Stuffed breads cost around AED 6 a piece and plain ones less, so everything is under AED 10.

Eat the stuffed breads on the pavement rather than taking them home: they're best in the first few minutes, before the cheese sets and the crisps go soft. Bring cash, since it's cash only, and it's open from 7am to midnight, so it works for breakfast too. It won't replace a full meal, and it's a counter for grabbing bread and going rather than a place to sit down.
