Heal is a café and a shop in one, set in a converted villa on Al Manara Road in Umm Suqeim, with a small store of scented candles and homeware on one side and the coffee on the other.

It's table service: staff show you to a table, inside or at the outdoor seats that run down the left side of the villa. We usually order a Cappuccino or a Flat White. The flat white is the one to judge it by: silky milk over either the Brazilian blend, with its chocolate and almond notes, or the fruitier Ethiopian Hambela, all pulled on a Synesso machine. Everyone should try the Tiramisu Latte or the Heal Hot Chocolate at least once. The San Sebastian Cheesecake is excellent, and if you're eating healthy, the Acai Bowl is a winner and the smoothies are really good. Oat or another milk costs AED 5 extra.

Plenty of tables are taken by people on laptops, and it's packed at weekends, when it gets noisy and food can take 30 minutes or more to arrive. Bring a good pair of headphones and it's a great place to work from. Parking is a challenge, so use the free spaces at the back of the villa.

Go for a long weekday coffee with your laptop; for a quick brunch at the weekend, expect to wait.
