# Bu Qtair

Bu Qtair started in the 1980s as a makeshift cabin with plastic chairs outside, feeding the fishermen at Umm Suqeim, and has since moved into a proper restaurant right across from the original spot, on the fishing harbour a short drive from the Burj Al Arab.

The menu is still simple: two kinds of fish, sheri and black pomfret, and shrimp, all coated in a masala paste of turmeric and chilli, then deep fried. You pick your fish raw at the counter, it's weighed and priced by weight, and your name is called when it's ready. It's cash only. Expect around 30 minutes while it's cooked. Have it with Malabari porotta or rice and the tomatoey fish curry, and use the bread to mop up both. Fried fish, curry and porotta is the plate regulars come back for.

Parking is fine most days, but when it's busy you'll have to park outside and walk in, and on weekends the wait can stretch to almost an hour. Go on a weekday, or before the dinner rush, to skip most of it.

Worth it for anyone after cheap, fresh, spicy fried fish in a no-frills room, less so if you want a relaxed, served dinner.
