Bread Ahead started in 2013 as a stall in London's Borough Market, won [Dubai](https://9715.ae/dubai/) over with its doughnuts at Expo 2020, and now fits an impressive range of food and drinks into a compact spot on Level 1 of Mall of the Emirates, near Marina Home.

The doughnuts greet you in the storefront cases, and the staff are quick to suggest what to order if you can't decide. Our picks are the Mango and Lemon Doughnut, the Almond Croissant and the Tomato & Olive Focaccia. The doughnut is the one to get: a fluffy, sugar-coated filled doughnut where the tart lemon and sweet mango balance each other out. It is a limited-time flavour and the best seller, and the tray can be down to its last two. With a cup of their excellent coffee, the three make a very satisfying breakfast.

There is indoor seating at white marble tables, and everything can be taken away. Budget around AED 80 for two. The downside is that the mango and lemon isn't always on, so you may find the case without it. Go in the morning, before the peak shopping crowds, when the cases are fullest.

If you're at Mall of the Emirates in the morning and want a proper bakery breakfast, Bread Ahead is a good way to start the day.
