Beurre, French for butter, fills a converted warehouse in Al Ttay, out on the Al Khawaneej side (the only other branch is inside Mirdif City Centre), and it takes the classics somewhere of its own. Whether it's a croissant, a cookie or a brownie, each staple gets a fresh twist.

The croissants come out crisp, golden and flaky, and the savoury side leans local: a labneh and olive twist, a honey and Kiri croissant, a caprese croissant. The cookies are what we usually go for. Regulars pair a flat white with the labneh and olive twist, and the coffee is carefully made, with V60 pour-overs from Ethiopia, Colombia and Brazil for anyone who wants more than a latte.

There's proper seating inside: natural oak chairs, counter stools at a bar dressed with fresh flowers and pastries, rattan lamps and small café tables, a room somewhere between modern and minimalist that makes you stay longer than planned. It's a quiet favourite with people who live nearby. If you'd rather not get out of the car, order through Drivu and it comes to you at the kerb.

The pastries start at Dhs31 and boxes at Dhs110. The warehouse also closes in the late afternoon, so for an evening craving head to the Mirdif City Centre branch instead.

Worth the drive for anyone who takes their croissants and coffee seriously, and a lovely spot to linger over a slow weekend breakfast.
