Easy to miss as you drive along [Jumeirah](https://9715.ae/dubai/area/jumeirah/) Beach Road, Al Sultan Sweets has been making Arabic sweets in [Dubai](https://9715.ae/dubai/) since 1997, and its baklava is reason enough to pull over.

This is the Umm Suqeim 1 branch on Jumeirah Street, one of nine the brand runs across the UAE. It isn't just a takeaway counter: the place spreads over two floors with seating outside too, and a full restaurant menu of grills, fruit salads and juices sits alongside the sweets.

Our go-to order is the kunafa, made fresh, the crisp Faisalia, a mix of their signature baklava and the cream-filled Shaabiat, sold by the piece at AED 7, with a traditional Turkish coffee. The kunafa comes two ways, soft or crisp with cheese. Try a single Shaabiat before you commit to a whole box to take home.

The sweets are made in-house by the shop's own confectioners, and regulars come back for the signature kunafa, the fruit salads and the fresh juices. The savoury side is less dependable, though: the mixed grill has come out with the meat undercooked, so stick to dessert.

Plenty goes home in a box too. A 350g tin of mixed baklava is AED 74 and soft kunafa starts at AED 35, which makes it an easy host gift.

If you're in Jumeirah and want dessert and a proper coffee after dinner, this is where to stop, and it's worth picking up a baklava tin on the way out.
