# Marmellata Bakery

It's called a bakery, but don't expect a sweet little corner shop selling bread and croissants: Marmellata, in Souq Al Mina, the waterfront row of shops at Mina Zayed port, is a hardcore pizzeria.

Even though it's away from the city's chaos, the tiny place was packed, and we had a 45-minute wait for a table on a summer evening. There are no reservations: you order at the counter and grab one of a handful of seats. Regulars queue before opening and off-menu specials sell out early, so arrive before the doors open, or carry your pizza outside and eat by the water. The pizzas covering the tables tell you what to expect. Asking around, the most popular options seem to be:

- Pepperoni with Hot Honey (almost everyone here recommends this)

- Mushroom with Kale and Garlic Confit

- Focaccia, described again and again as light and airy; the rosemary one stuffed with beef speck and truffle honey is one of the house signatures.

We went with the Pepperoni with Hot Honey, and it earned every one of those recommendations. It came hot, thick and airy, and wasn't greasy or heavy, so you remember the taste, not the regret. Pizzas cost about AED 80 to 90, which is more than your local delivery place, but the dough alone is in another league. Worth the drive to the port if you care about the crust more than comfort.
